Scripture
And He went up on the mountain and called to Him those He Himself wanted. And they came to Him. Then He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach, and to have power to heal sicknesses and to cast out demons: Mark 3 13-15
Observation
Jesus must have known from the beginning that He alone would never be able to do all that would be necessary to preach the Good News to every person upon the earth. So here we find God’s plan beginning to unfold. Jesus calls people from all different walks of life to become disciples in order that they might carry on the mission of Christ after He has returned to heaven.
Application
I have often struggled with what it really means to be a disciple. I not just talking about the twelve he called two thousand years ago. What about today…what does it mean to be a disciple today?
Jesus always makes things simple:
--He calls
--He invites them to send time with Him
--He sends them out to preach
Somewhere along the line, we have made the simple…difficult.
Prayer
Lord, I know I often have the tendency to make things more difficult than they really are. Thank you for reminding me that at the heart of being a disciple is simply spending time with you.

Since Jesus calls all of the redeemed to service in His vineyard, Is it possible that we were asleep when He asked us to go to work? Were we busy talking to a friend, watching or playing a game, were we thinking up excuses why we shouldn't have been asked? Were we busy paying tithes and giving offerings and saying to ourselves, "We will let the professionals do it"?
Folks the woods would be a very quiet place if only the best singers ever sang. You were called out of a sinful life in order for you to go to work saving others. If someone had not told you where would you be.
