Jan 1, 2009 Gen 1,2 Luke 1

Scripture
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. Genesis 1:1-2

Observation
This verse is so easy to read, but very difficult to imagine. Can you imagine the earth unshaped, undeveloped and unfinished? Yet that is what is being described. There was a time when the earth was completely empty and void of everything.

In the beginning there was nothing…nothing but God. God step into nothing, He stood upon nothing, He look at nothing and using nothing, He created everything.

With man, we must have substance, we must have materials, and we must have something to work with in order to make anything at all. When we see nothing, then we see absolutely no potential whatsoever.

But with God and the substance of His Word, He changed everything!

Application
Yes, “the earth was formless and empty and darkness was over the surface of the deep…”

But you know what? “The Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.”
There are so many times in our life when all we see is chaos. We become frightened and filled with uncertainty because we don’t see how things can possible work out. Even though we know better, we experience feelings of desperation and helplessness.

But what an incredible gift to know, that when we need God the most, God is right there; hovering over our chaos and emptiness

When we get to the point in our lives, when it seems as if everywhere we look, there is nothing but darkness…right there on the edge…we will find God!

Prayer
Lord, thank you that you are a God who hovers over all you have created. When I become troubled and anxious for the future because I don’t see the right things in place, remind me that it doesn’t limit your ability to work your plan for me.
