Scripture
And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. Acts 4:31
Observation
Going through the Gospel of Luke recently we saw how much prayer was a part of Jesus life and certainly the secret of His power. It seems the Holy Spirit also wants us to notice that this same commitment to prayer existed in the early church.
What was the result? The place was shaken, they were filled with the Holy Spirit and they proclaimed the Word of God with boldness.
Application
Everyone wants a church on fire. So what do we do?
--We look to the worship service and ways to make it more moving.
--We look to the music and ways to spice it up.
--We look to the preaching and ways to make it more dramatic.
There is only one way that a church begins to burn with fire and it is when the people are on fire.
Prayer is what lights the fire!
Prayer
O God, please light your people on fire and let it start with me!

Too often our reasons for going to church are not the best ones. We go looking for the wrong things. yet if we are there GOD has a way of reaching out and touching us. As we learn to associate with people who have something of what we long for we catch a spark here and there until GOD is given permission to light us afire. So if you find yourself thinking you aren't getting all you think you should, don't quit coming. Reach out to the people who you see having what you think you are missing. As you reach out you will find that you aren't as diffferent as you might think you are. that many of these people have struggles that are the same as yours. You will find that they are giving GOD permission to show them what is missing, what needs to replace and how it is started. We are a fellowship for that reason.
Good point. If a person is cold, it is a good idea to draw close to a fire.
