Scripture
And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. Genesis 9:11
Observation
God, the creator and sustainer of all life had just destroyed every living creature upon the earth except for those few which were aboard the ark. Noah and his family had been spared but everything else they had known was gone.
Noah had seen a side of God that might have been a little hard understand. I wonder what He was thinking. Was he scared? Was he afraid God might destroy the earth again; only this time his family included?
God must have sensed the uncertainty within Noah. He could have used this to His advantage and left Noah and his family in doubt wondering what God would do if they ever disobeyed Him. But instead God made a promise which was offered to bring peace and security.
Application
Who are we to have God promise anything to us? And yet, His Word is filled with promises. It is certainly not for His benefit, but for ours.
God knows my doubts, my concerns and my fears. All of these are based on the fact that I don’t know the future. So, the One who knows the end from the beginning chooses to fill His Word with promises to me.
God’s Word is not for His benefit but for ours. He could have remained silent, but He didn’t. Through His Word, God promises protection, direction, blessing, companionship and salvation just to name a few.
Life might be uncertain, but God is not!
Prayer
Lord, thank you for your exceedingly great and precious promises in Your Word. When I am anxious and fearful, please bring to my remembrance that very promise You made which will best give me peace.

Hi Bill,
Here is what I got from the Bible reading today..
Satan's Strategy: Keeping me away from God
Scripture: Luke 4:5-8
Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said to Him, "All this authority I will give you, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours." And Jesus answered and said to him, "Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, "You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.
Observation:
Satan plays on weakness. He will look for the perfect opportunity to pounce. He will say anything and do anything to keep me from worshiping God. Of course you can't believe a word he says because he is a liar.
Application:
Satan wants to keep me from worshiping God and will use any means available to make it happen. I must pray and study God's word so that I will recognize when I am under attack. Satan doesn't make the attacks appear appalling instead they are appealing. I must know Jesus better and become more like Him so that I will be able to withstand the attacks that Satan throws at me.
Prayer:
Dear Lord help me to know you better. Place your word in my heart and mind so that I won't fall for Satan's lies and tricks. Amen
Tracey,
You are absolutely right. The issue then and now is about worship.
I don't know how Satan will ever get us to worship him...I can't even imagine how that would ever happen. But I do know this, the first step has to be to get us to stop worshipping God.
Bill
